Open IDEO

App Design, Copywriting, User Experience

OVERVIEW: I participated in OpenIDEO challenge to answer the question: How might we use technology to inspire all socioeconomic and multicultural groups to lead healthier lives? I submitted an idea that focuses on an element of healthy diets that does not often get addressed in typical apps — emotional eating.

USER JOURNEY
STAGE 1: AWARENESS

In Stage 1 Rosa wears a Bio Feedback Monitor that collects information on her heart rate.

As Rosa logs her food intake and moods, the app can combine this with it’s biofeedback data to learn more about Rosa.

She can see how her moods and heart rate relate to her food choices.

USER JOURNEY
STAGE 1: AWARENESS

As the app learns some of Rosa’s habits it can send Push Notifications so she can become more aware of how she feels and make her food choices with this awareness in mind.

Rosa may begin to make different choices or the same choices. Awareness is all that matters at this stage.

USER JOURNEY
STAGE 2: FOOD SWAPPING

In Stage 2 the app begins to anticipate Rosa’s patterns — for instance, it can send a Push Notification a little before the time Rosa normally binges on sweets and can recommend that Rosa eat something healthy to interrupt the normal pattern.

She begins to replace sodas with water and desserts with fruits. She also adds simple tasty salads to the menu.

Rosa can also access the Healthy Village Pinterest board for more easy meal ideas.

USER JOURNEY
STAGE 3: FOOD SWAPPING

Stage 3 introduces Rosa to easy, fun ways to get her family moving. Suggestions can be as simple as playing ball in the park or joining local sports teams.

Staying active helps with overall physical and mental health and a little bit can go a long way!

USER JOURNEY
ALL STAGES: EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Rosa logs in to the online community for more resources, message boards and live chat rooms to talk with other users about their experiences.

Resources may include infomation on the connection between food and feelings, call centers for depression, professional referrals and local meetups.

USER JOURNEY
ALL STAGES: EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Rosa can access a library of resources such as pre-recorded videos from “villagers.” One of the villagers might be Abuelita, who tells stories, offers coping ideas, recipes and reminds Rosa that there are always people around who can help (family, friends or professionals.)
